Tottenham Hotspur have reached a verbal agreement with Manchester City to sign Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush. The deal will begin as a loan, with a £50 million buy clause that becomes mandatory if the player meets certain performance or appearance conditions.
Marmoush joined City from Eintracht Frankfurt for around £59 million back in January 2025. During his time in Manchester, he made 62 appearances for City across all competitions. He scored 16 goals and added six assists, while also winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. However, he had fallen behind Erling Haaland and new signing Rayan Cherki in City’s pecking order.
Tottenham have made a number of moves during the transfer window. Their signings include Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Martin Dubravka, Jan Paul van Hecke, Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali, and Savinho, which totals well past £200 million. Despite those moves, Spurs were beaten 3-0 by Brentford in their opening match, managing just four shots on target. That performance appears to have accelerated the club’s push to add attacking reinforcements before the transfer window closes.
Marmoush would add a different kind of threat to Tottenham’s front line. He excels at running in behind defenses and linking play rather than serving as a pure target man. He could complement rather than replace existing striker Dominic Solanke, given their contrasting profiles. Solanke plays much more physically and holds the ball up top. Marmoush, on the other hand, has the tendency to drift wide and exploit space in behind. That kind of interchange would suit De Zerbi’s attacking approach, which relies on forwards rotating positions and dropping deep to build play.
It’ll be interesting to see what Marmoush looks like on this revamped Tottenham team. They have made a lot of moves during the transfer window, so they have the potential to shoot up the standings.
