The Seattle Seahawks have added another notable name to their secondary. They have agreed to terms with veteran cornerback Trevon Diggs on a one-year contract a day after Diggs tried out for the team.
Diggs’ path to Seattle moved quickly. He worked out for the Seahawks on Tuesday, and by Wednesday the two sides had a deal in place. However, it wasn’t his only recent audition. Diggs had also tried out for the Detroit Lions earlier in August without signing there.
The 27-year-old joins a Seahawks secondary that’s been in flux this offseason. Seattle lost Riq Woolen to the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency. To replace Woolen, they added Terrion Arnold. However, Arnold will be placed on the NFL commissioner’s exempt list while he faces kidnapping and armed robbery charges stemming from an alleged incident in Florida.
Diggs was a second-round pick by Dallas in 2020 and quickly became one of the league’s most recognizable defensive backs. His signature season came in 2021, when he led the NFL with 11 interceptions and earned first-team All-Pro honors. He remains the only player since 1981 to record at least 11 interceptions in a single season. A second Pro Bowl nod followed in 2022.
But the last several years have been defined by injury and inconsistency. Diggs tore his ACL just two games into the 2023 season, shortly after signing a five-year, $97 million extension with Dallas. He underwent additional knee surgery in December 2024 and another procedure in January 2025. Those surgeries limited him to just 21 games over three seasons.
The Cowboys then waived him in December 2025 after a rocky final season in Dallas that included a $500,000 pay reduction tied to his participation in the offseason program. Green Bay claimed him off waivers for a brief playoff run before releasing him in January 2026, and he’d been a free agent ever since.
It’ll be interesting to see what Diggs is able to do in Seattle. It’s a low-risk, high-reward signing for the Seahawks, who are thin in the secondary. If Diggs is able tos tay healthy, then they brought in a serviceable backup for a minimum. if he doesn’t work out, then they can move on easily next summer.
