The Detroit Lions Released Terrion Arnold

The Detroit Lions have released cornerback Terrion Arnold after he was arrested on felony charges of armed robbery and kidnapping.

He has been released on bond; however, Hillsborough County (Florida) Judge Christopher Sabrlla added three conditions:

  • He is not allowed to contact the six co-defendants or the witnesses in the case.
  • He must surrender his passport within 48 hours.
  • He was also ordered confined to his residence in Tallahassee, Florida, except when he would be playing, training, and traveling with the Lions or making court-related appearances or legal appointments.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred in Tampa back in early February. According to the prosecutors, Arnold organized the kidnapping and beating of three individuals after cash and luxury items were reported as stolen from Arnold’s Airbnb. They say that six people carried out the crime by initially luring one of the men to an apartment. The group then proceeded to hold, beat, and pistol-whip the victims.

They were able to tie Arnold to the crime after two co-defendants pleaded guilty and started cooperating with the authorities. Although they were not in the apartment at the time of the crime, he is accused of watching the assault.

The Lions are losing a major contributor in the secondary. The Lions drafted Arnold in the first round of the 2024 draft out of Alabama and, as a first-round pick, had roughly two years and $4.8 million left on his rookie deal. Arnold was slated to be a starter this season across from D.J. Reed. This is because over the course of his career, he has 24 games with 22 starts, recording 18 passes defensed and one interception.

It’ll be interesting to see what the Lions do from here. They have had numerous issues on the defensive side of the ball the past couple of seasons. Losing a starting-caliber player due to off-the-field issues will not help them.
